Prof Gillian Bristow is Professor in Economic Geography in the School of Geography and Planning in Cardiff University. She has research interests in the areas of regional economic development; regional economic resilience; local and regional competitiveness; devolution finance; regional economic change and restructuring; and the evaluation and analysis of UK and EU public policy in relation to regional and rural development objectives. For more details about Gillian click here.


Waterfront regeneration in Australia: local responses to global trends in re-imagining disused city docklands

Prof Susan Oakely is an urban sociologist. Her current research is a study of redeveloping disused urban docklands which examines the relationship between urban planning, governance and urban renewal of brownfield sites. For more details about Susan click here.


How do businesses experience the planning process?
Time: 9.00am - 11.00am, 26th March 2015
Venue: David Keir Building (LG/024), QUB, Belfast

An interactive session including a mix of presentations and discussion on how business and the economy can benefit from the planning process. It will also explore the role of planning in economic development more generally, for example by encouraging business investment. Practical examples will be provided by guest speakers Richard Hunter, R Robinson & Sons, Anne Donaghy, Chief Executive of Mid and East Antrim District Council and Michael Worthington, Pragma Planning. Ciaran Cuffe is an architect and planner. He has worked on master-planning projects in Ireland and abroad. He held public office for twenty years as a councillor, TD, and most recently Minister of State with responsibility for planning and climate change.
