The "activention" is jointly organised by Urban Research Belfast, MAG (the Ministerial Advisory Group) and PLACE with support from the Titanic Pub, Cafe Wah, and the Belfast Central Library along with volunteers from the University of Ulster Department of Architecture and Smithfield & Union businesses.
Library Street will be 'activated' between Titanic Bar and Belfast Central Library.
This is a very short-term informal event to help raise awareness of the potential for the space as a future public, pedestrian square, currently being considered by the Department for Social Development through separate consultation processes.
In the spirit of short-term experiments to aid long-term investments in better quality public spaces, the intention is to start further conversations and awareness of the potential that exists in such small urban spaces, in the Smithfield & Union area of Belfast, and in future development of the city's public realm.
We are encouraging anyone attending to support local businesses by purchasing lunch, coffee, tea, etc and bring them along to enjoy al fresco. Bring a coat and a positive outlook...if you are as occupied by design as we are help us occupy this unique space in the city.
We are also looking for anyone who can (or wants to try to) sing, play an instrument or has a favourite piece of poetry to share.
